Deer Stalking in Abbeyleix Estate, Co Laois, Ireland
The deer stalking season for female deer runs from November 1st to 28th
February each year.
Deer stalkers must have a current hunting license from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
Red Deer, Sika and Fallow are the main species of deer found in Ireland with Fallow being the most numerous.

The woodlands of the Abbeyleix Estate are a perfect habitat for herds of wild deer and the deer
stalkers who take part in the seasonal sport are always assured of a memorable day's hunting.

One of the reasons that deer stalking is licensed is to control the deer population because of the severe damage
they can cause to timber and farm crops. Deer stalkers must adhere to the deer open
season dates.
Deer stalking must be carried out with everyone's safety in mind and for this reason
- We have produced a safety statement which is available from the game keeper.
- The use of automatic shotguns is prohibited.
- Each deer stalker must provide their own personal protective clothing.
- The bullet should be of minimum calibre of .240 inches and minimum muzzle energy of 1,700 foot-pounds
should be use for killing deer. (i.e. .243 Win using a bullet weighing100 grains).

The current price for one day's deer stalking at the Abbeyleix Estate is €200 which entitles you to shoot as
many female does as are available, without any guarantee on shoot. There is an additional charge of €100 for
shooting any male buck, with trophies.
Accommodation can also be arranged at reduced rates, if required.
